Yolo County

Welcome

Thank you for considering becoming a resource family or adoptive parent. It can be one of the most rewarding things you ever do!

Our Mission

Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency Resource Family Approval (RFA) Division’s mission is to recruit, approve, prepare and support resource families (foster and adoptive families, relative caregivers, and non-related extended family member) who can provide healthy, stable, loving and permanent homes to children that cannot safely live with their parents. RFA is a family friendly, child-centered, caregiver approval process.

We welcome and need all families – regardless of age, sex, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital or domestic partnership status, physical characteristics, national origin, medical status or disability status – to help us fulfill this mission. We strive to make the process of becoming a resource family as streamlined and supportive as possible.

Yolo RFA is a child-centered, timely, and mutually respectful process and partnership that responds to the need of the child through a team approach that values safety , permanency and the well-being of every child.

We offer online applications for resource families through our partnership with Binti.

The Need

Currently there are thousands of children in Yolo County being served by the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) who cannot safely live with their own families due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. These children need to be with a safe, stable, and loving family sometimes temporarily and sometimes permanently. We service all children and many are African-American and Latino, a member of a sibling group, may have special medical, emotional, or educational needs. They are also wonderful children who could thrive in a loving home.
